PRAY WITHOUT CEASING:
A CIRCLE
OF PRAYER FOR THE CHURCH A nationwide prayer vigil for the
Episcopal Church and the 2003 General
Convention
will begin on July 30, 2002 - exactly one year
before the convention opens in Minneapolis. The dioceses of the Episcopal
Church are once again being invited to take responsibility for three
separate days of prayer during the year.
As
this rotating
prayer vigil
moves from diocese to diocese, and province to province, the effect
will be like an ever widening circle of the Holy Spirit, surrounding our
leaders. The prayer circle will repeat three times, moving throughout the
Episcopal Church and returning to each diocese to draw more and more of
God's people into a life of prayer. As we seek the guidance of the Holy
Spirit for our bishops and deputies, may this circle continue to
grow.
Everyone is invited to
take part in some way, either by joining in an organized prayer vigil at a
particular church, or by setting aside personal time to pray for the
Episcopal Church on that day. As in the past, the purpose of the prayer
vigil is to support our bishops and deputies in prayer, and to intercede
for a convention which will be facing a number of crucial issues
surrounding our common life and mission. We cannot expect every conflict
to be immediately resolved, nor every answer to be revealed
instantaneously. However, in major areas of disagreement we can expect God
to show a way through the impasse and to make the mind of Christ known in
our midst.
If
you are able to coordinate the Prayer Vigil's movement through your
diocese, please contact your diocesan representative or the AFP Office
. We hope that every
diocese will participate in this important ministry.
